Elevated body care powered by active ingredients & nourishing botanicals.

I streamlined search & navigation for an eCommerce site with ~300k+ monthly visitors

This summer, I joined Saltair as a freelance designer under the guidance of lead designer Chase Gray.

We worked across the entire website, with most of my effort devoted to optimizing the site’s main search and navigation. I went beyond visual design, cataloging and reorganizing Saltair's 148-product suite to improve search efficiency for both users and developers.

While this project is still under NDA, I cannot elaborate on the specifics of our work. However, I can share a few of my key takeaways and moments of growth.

Key Takeaways

Modular product pages are critical for an ever-expanding product line
Saltair's web store offers 148 products spanning 10 fragrance options and 10+ product types - many with subtypes and multiple size options. As Saltair continues to release new variations of existing products, their product pages must be flexible. While one product may only have a scent variant, another product may have a scent variant and a size variant and a shimmer variant and so on.

This made it essential to design a modular product page - one that could support any combination of variant selectors while remaining simple, scalable, and easy to use.
Turning consumer values into UI strategy
Saltair proudly positions itself as cruelty-free, vegan, paraben-free, and gluten-free. Naturally, its customers deeply value clean ingredients and science-backed formulations. When designing the web store, we worked to highlight these values without overwhelming users with excessive information.

Each product also comes with its own unique benefits, which vary significantly across product types. To address this, we created a modular system of reusable website sections featuring statistic visualizations, before/after effects, consumer survey results, and more. These sections are fully responsive and designed to scale across all devices, allowing Saltair to showcase product benefits and brand values clearly, without overcrowding the page.
